Ruth Duncan Albert

d. May 4, 2019

Marion, Va.

Ruth Duncan Albert left this world for her heavenly home on May 4 , 2019.

She was born on November 12, 1927 to the late Amanda and Carl Duncan in Washington County, Virginia. Ruth did not shy away from hard work. She worked hard on her family farm growing tobacco in order to attend business college. After completing her education and while working, she met her loving husband, Robert (Bob) Albert in Bluefield, West Virginia. She and Bob married and moved to Marion, Virginia where they raised their two children. Ruth worked in the treasurer's office of Smyth County for over 40 years with half of those as the Treasurer. She loved her job and especially the contact she had with the people every day. Also, her home church, Marion Baptist, held a special place in her heart. Ruth's greatest love was her family and especially being "Nanny" to her grandchildren. After retirement, Ruth enjoyed traveling and could claim that she visited all 50 states.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Clayton Albert; four grandchildren, Robby Albert, and Jacob, Joshua and Justin Hicks; siblings, Lela Owens, Doris Tolliver, Opal Davis, Helen Barlow, Clayborn and Denton Duncan.

Ruth is survived by her two children, Robert Steven Albert and wife, Irene, and Sharon Albert Hicks and her husband, Jack; four grandchildren, Zachary Albert, Allie Cook, Hannah Hicks, Luke Hicks; great-grandchild Mieloh Cook; and two brothers, Claude and Johnny Duncan.

The family would like to thank Hospice and the special caregivers at Carriagehouse Assisted Living in Greensboro, NC, where she spent the last three years of her life.
