MARION, Va.: Ada "Mean Nanny" Farmer Tilson, age 84, died Sunday, July 23, 2017 at her home in Marion, Va.
She was born June 8, 1933 in Grayson County to the late Roby and Cordelia Absher Farmer. Ada was a full-time momma. She didn't know a stranger and if you came in the house there were always beans on the stove and bread in the oven. Ada was constantly working the phones checking on her brother, her kids and grandchildren; and was always calling Jim Mabe about someone's birthday. She had a heart of gold and was loved by so many. As far as Ada was concerned, we were all family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Tilson, Jr.; daughter, Carolyn Somervell; grandchildren, Michael "Dink" Sturgill, Gwyndolyn Elizabeth Linkous and Candace Leigh Hall; and several brothers and sisters.
Ada is survived by her daughters, Sharon Kegley and husband, Eddie of Marion, Va., Sabrina Roberts and husband, Richard of Villa Rica, Ga., Stella James and husband, Rick of Troutdale, Va., and Charlotte Parris and special friend, Joseph Linkous of Marion, Va.; sons, Charles Tilson and wife, Joyce of Marion, Va. and Kent Tilson of Chilhowie, Va.; brother, Jack Farmer of Elyria, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her favorite mailman, Mike.
