CHILHOWIE, VIRGINIA: AGNES M. PENNINGTON MARTIN, age 81, died early Monday, November 07, 2005 at the Hospice House in Bristol, Tennessee following a brief illness. She was the widow of James L. "Bub" Martin who passed away in 1998. They were married 53 years prior to his death, and she leaves behind their four sons and a large, loving family that gathered at her home to share a meal each Sunday. She lived her entire life in the region, being born and raised in Konnarock, Virginia and working for 30 years at Piggly Wiggly in Chilhowie before her retirement. Throughout her life Ag remained devoted to her extensive family. She is survived by four sons, Kent Martin and wife, Sylvia, Allen Martin and wife, Maxine, Russ Martin and wife, Elaine all of Chilhowie, Virginia, and Bill Martin and wife, Jan of Bluff City, Tennessee. Nine grandchildren, Mike Martin, Daniel Martin, Debbi Martin, Lisa Frye, Julie Oda, Brian Martin, Matthew Martin, Travis Martin and Ashton Martin along with nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Ag also leaves two brothers, Jimmy and Ronnie Campbell both of Lenior, North Carolina and one half-sister, Mae Roland of Chilhowie, Virginia; as well as four sisters-in-law, Louella Shuler and Mickey Martin of Chilhowie, Virginia, Mary Ellen Reid of Stuarts Draft, Virginia, and Shirley Thompson of Miami, Florida. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rev. Lloyd Sheets officiating. Graveside Services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in Grosses Creek Cemetery, Chilhowie, Virginia. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until the time of the services at Seaver-Brown Chapel. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Grosses Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Jackie Blevins, 250 Flatwood Acres Road, Chilhowie, Virginia 24319.
