MARION, VIRGINIA: ALFRED W. FERGUSON, age 79, went to be with his Lord on Monday, April 9, 2007 at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, Virginia. He was born July 6, 1927 to the late Shuler A. and Flossie Williams Ferguson in Lebanon, Virginia. Al graduated from Lebanon High School and Roanoke Business College. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a former member of the Jaycees, past President of the Civitan Club, and a member of Holston Hills Country Club. Al was a member of Marion Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, past chairman of the deacons, Sunday School teacher, and other committees. He worked for the Retail Credit Company, owned and operated Ferguson Furniture Company, and was assistant Registrar of Voters for Smyth County. Al enjoyed his grandchildren, gardening, flowers, and golfing. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Raymond. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Frances D. Ferguson of Marion, Virginia; two sons, Alfred Wayne Ferguson, Jr. of Harrisonburg, Virginia and Timothy E. Ferguson of Covington, Virginia; one daughter, Lisa F. Johnston and husband, Michael of Roanoke, Virginia; two grandchildren, Codi E. Bowman and Hunter M. Johnston; three brothers, Rev. Lester L. Ferguson of Rosedale, Virginia, Adron Ferguson and wife, Betty, Buford Ferguson and wife, Nancy all of Lebanon, Virginia; two sisters, Gaynell Mitchell and husband, Harold of Lebanon, Virginia and Jean Riley of Troutville, Virginia; three sisters-in-law, Peggy D. Stuttaford of Sacramento, California, Faye Chapman of Uniontown, Ohio and Debbie Dyson of Marion, Virginia; one brother-in-law, Joe Dyson and wife, Betty of Marion, Virginia; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, April 12, 2007 at 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Dr. Mark Ross officiating. Graveside Services will be held Friday, April 13, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Rose Lawn Cemetery, Marion, Virginia. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Marion Baptist Church, 1258 North Main Street, Marion, Virginia 24354. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the family at www.seaverbrown.com. Seaver-Brown Funeral Service and Crematory is serving the Ferguson Family.
