MARION, Va.; ALFRED LEO PARKS, age 80, died Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Carrington Place of Rural Retreat.
Mr. Parks was a caring man who adored his family. He enjoyed fishing and made many wonderful memories taking his grandsons with him. He loved nature and anything outdoors, and he was an avid birdwatcher. Mr. Parks was loved by his family and many friends and will be missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bays Earl and Hattie Holdaway Parks; son, Kenny Parks; and sister, Jolene Campbell.
Mr. Parks is survived by his loving life partner, Joyce Tallent of Marion, Va.; daughter, Julie Maynard of Gray, Tn.; step-daughters, Pam Waddell and husband Marty of Atkins, Va. and Tammy Austin of Marion, Va.; sister, Sue Grissom and husband, Pete of Marion, Va.; brother, Dewey Parks and wife, Nancy of Orlando, Florida; step-grandchildren, Rusty Waddell, Tyler Austin and wife, Breea and Trevor Austin; step-great-grandchildren, Mya and Camden Austin; nephews, Robert Campbell and wife, Teisha, and Raymond Campbell and wife, June Ella all of Rich Valley, Va.; nieces, Anne Campbell Boone and husband, Bill of Atlanta, Ga., Laura Campbell of Marion, Va. and Cynthia Smith of Charlotte, N.C.; special great-niece, Skylare Smith a student at N.C. State; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Graveside services will be held Friday, October 23, 2015 at 12 p.m. at Rich Valley Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Reverend Andy Parkey officiating.
