MARION, VIRGINIA: ALICE GREER POWELL, age 88, died Tuesday, June 27, 2006 in Johnston Memorial Hospital. She had been a cook at Bassett's Restaurant for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Powell; two sons, Harold Powell and Everette Powell; one daughter-in-law, Betty Clark Powell; and one son-in-law, Sherman "Dude" Gullion. She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Martha Gullion of Marion, Virginia, Yolanda and Don Compton of Sarasota, Florida, Janet and Bill Greer of Marion, Virginia, and Yvonne Powell also of Marion, Virginia; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Powell of Marion, Virginia; one sister, Margie Shine of Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren, Vicky Salter, Pam Cornett, Kevin Gullion, Angie Barr, Michelle Reece, Keith Powell, Chris Greer, Robin Jones, and Travis Greer; and twelve great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 30, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rev. William T. Wing, III officiating. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat, Virginia. The Family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
