MARION, Va.
Alice Hill Thompson, age 94, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2019 at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, Va.
Alice was born March 14, 1924 in Grayson County to the late Robert P. and Spara Blackburn Hill. She faithfully attended Liberty Freewill Baptist Church for many years. Alice was a hard worker and started working at the age of 22. In her words she spent “78 years working somewhere.” She was retired from Merillat after 21 years of dedicated service having never missed a day. Most of all, Alice will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, who will be missed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 20 years, Van B. Thompson; and sister, Catherine Dolinger.
Alice is survived by her son, John Robert Thompson, Sr. and wife, Gaynell of Marion, Va.; granddaughter, Jeannie Pennington of Chilhowie, Va.; grandson, John Robert Thompson, Jr. and wife, Mickey of Christiansburg, Va.; great-grandchildren, Ashley Flory and husband, Justin, and Megan Gillispie; sister, Bertie Thompson, all of Marion, Va.; five great-great-grandchildren, Hunter, Titan, Olivia, Kaylee and Athena; step-great-grandchildren, Amanda and Codie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at 7 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Pastor Jimmy Taylor officiating. Burial in Linder Cole Cemetery in Grayson County, Va. will be private. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 p.m. until the time of service.
