Marion, Virginia
Ann Huchthausen Baldwin, age 80, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion Va.
A true Italian woman, Ann loved family, good food, and cooking for others. She enjoyed music in all forms and was an exceptional pianist, playing beautifully, keeping music alive in church and in life as a part of Sweet Adelines International. Ann was very active in St. John’s Catholic Church, not only as a pianist but also with her husband Walter in the Cursillo Movement – a lay organization working to better lives. Ann worked in healthcare for over 40 years - pulling her share of night shifts. A lover of all animals, ever the original Horse Girl, she rescued a lot of dogs from the local shelter; had many goat owner adventures; and contributed a lot to the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel community in Virginia. Ann was a hilarious character with a warm smile and presence. A call with her never lasted less than 20 minutes. To know Ann was to love her, and she is loved and missed very much.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of more than 56 years, Walter Luther Baldwin; parents, Albert and Frances Huchthausen.
Ann is survived by her daughter, Virginia Ann Wiehrs and husband Keith of Gloucester, Va.; sons, John Baldwin and wife, Tina Grubb of Marion, Va., and David Baldwin and wife, Analyn of Germany; brother, Al Huchthausen and wife, Kris of Centereach, NY; seven grandchildren, Amanda, Emily, Andrew, Chloe, Emma, Martin and Ian; and two great-grandchildren, Elena and Violet.
The family will receive friends Monday, July 22, 2024 from 12 noon until 1 p.m. at Fraziers’ Seaver-Brown Chapel, 237 East Main Street, Marion Va.
