Katherine Burkett Lambert

MARION, Va.

Katherine Burkett Lambert, age 95, passed away Saturday, February 12, 2022 at her home under hospice care after suffering a stroke one week earlier.

She was born April 17, 1926 in Groseclose, Va. to the late Oscar James Burkett, Sr. and Ella Meredith Burkett. Katherine graduated from Marion High School, Class of 1943 and attended Johnson City Business College. She married the love of her life, Bud, who passed in 1995, the two would have been married nearly 50 years, but today they are reunited in heaven. Katherine retired from Physicians To Children, Inc. in Roanoke, Va. after working over 30 years. In the 1980's she, with her husband owned J & K Air Freight, working as driver / owner for Airborne Express out of Roanoke, covering the area from Lynchburg to Radford. After her husband passed away, she moved back to Marion. She was a member of Fulton United Methodist Church in Rural Retreat, Va. where she served as Church Treasurer for 15 years. Katherine loved music and sang in the church choir and worked in other capacities when needed. She was a member of the Joy Group and Martha Circle at the First United Methodist Church in Marion, Va.; and a volunteer at Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home for over 16 years. Katherine was from a very close family, and when any member of the family needed help - she was there to help them.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Lee Lambert; three brothers, Neal Burkett, Sr. (Ethel), Samuel S. Burkett, and Oscar "Jay" Burkett, Jr.; son-n-law, Charles G. Farr; and nephew George Neal Burkett, Jr.

Katherine is survived by two daughters, Diane Lambert Breining (Gary) of Burlington, Ky., and Elizabeth "Beth" Farr of Marion, Va.; two grandchildren, Andrea E. Foxworthy (Andy) of Elgin, Okla., and Duane L. Farr (Stacey) of Billings, Mont.; four great-grandchildren, Annabeth and Annika Foxworthy, and Jory and Brystal Farr; two sisters-in-law, Helen W. Burkett and Linda K. Burkett; several special nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 16, 2022 from 1 until 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the Fulton United Methodist Church, c/o Treasurer, PO Box 641, Atkins, Va. 24311 or to any local Food Bank.
