CHILHOWIE, Va.
Barbara "Granny" Gentry, age 73, passed away Friday, October 8, 2021 at Johnson City Medical Center, Johnson City, Tenn. After fearlessly defeating multiple cancers, she ultimately succumbed to complications related to heart failure.
Barbara was born July 8, 1948 to the late Arthur and Lucy Sommers. She lived life fully, generously, and with great humor and wit.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Arthur Sommers Jr. and Debbie Faust.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Doug Gentry; children, Donna Hall and husband, Dean, Donnie Sutphin and wife, Charla, and April Robbins and husband, Denny; sisters, Mary Owens and Edith Dunlap; grandchildren, Audra Hall and Buddy Corder, DJ Hall, Ashley and Scotty Rhoten, Taylor McDonald, and Tyler and Pamela McDonald; great-grandchildren, Sammy, Brooklyn, McKenzie, August, Ava, Levi, Boogie, Lena, and Maddie; many nieces and nephews; and beloved pet Peanut Gentry.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 12, 2021 from 5 until 7 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel, 237 East Main Street, Marion, Va. 24354. Everyone attending is asked to follow the COVID-19 Safety & Social Distancing Guidelines.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that a donation be made to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105 or the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen VA 23058-5216 in honor of Barbara.
