ATKINS, Va.
Barbara Wyatt, age 51, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, Va.
Barbara, better known as the most selfless lady in Smyth County, left this world with a smile on her face as she entered the gates of heaven after battling cancer for several years. She loved her Jesus and was ready to meet him. Barbara loved everyone and would want to be loved. She loved her sons dearly and she just had a heart of gold. Barbara worked at Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie, Va. as a CNA for several years doing what she did best, taking care of others. Before her departure, she returned to Valley, but this time as a patient to tell them how it’s done after drinking a room temperature coke. Later on, she met her bonus family at the Hadassah Home in Atkins Va. Here, her compassion for helping others thrived as she was considered the “resident nurse” who was able to soothe her fellow residents. Women came with nothing, but left with everything after having the privilege of knowing Barbara as she would go without for someone else. Barbara made several generous donations including several phones and a washing machine to the Hadassah Home. Her ability to alter others’ lives didn’t stop there, she also was known for her ability to have kinship with children almost as though they were drawn to her. If you knew Barbara, you didn’t lose her because you know exactly where she is. She was well loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Donna Martin; and brother-in-law, Shannon Martin.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Jason Martin; sons, David Wilson and Matthew Martin; and the ones she was a 2nd mom to – Gabby Pritchett, David Scarfano II, Aaron Wood, Brandon Cox, Coby Cox, and Allen Compton; several nieces and nephews; her Hadassah family; special friends, “Mama Peg,” Meranda Harris and Bev Cason; very special friend, Sherry Reedy; her roommate, caregiver, and best friend all in one, Judy Hess.
The family will receive friends Saturday, November 19, 2022 from 11 until 12 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 12p.m. with Mike Sage officiating. The Freedom Tabernacle church choir was requested by Barbara and will be present.
