Betty Anderson

Betty Ann Kennedy Anderson age 84, closed her eyes here on earth and opened them in Heaven on Friday, January 03, 2025. 

Betty was short, feisty, independent, stubborn and we loved that about her! She basically raised herself in her younger years, so she just knew how to do things and make them work. She also was a tell it like it was person with very little filter, but you knew she loved you. Betty worked hard her whole life, even while raising Kim on her own. When she wasn’t working for American Furniture in Chilhowie or telling it like it was, she enjoyed cross stitching, puzzles, yard sales—where she acquired many beloved knick knacks! Betty had a green thumb and loved being in the garden, especially raising her tomato plants and seeing her humming birds. She was tough, but all heart. Betty will be missed by all who knew and love her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Virginia Kennedy; grandson, Phillip Martin Beeman; siblings, John Kennedy and Dottie Gragg. 

Betty is survived by her daughters, Kim Hall (Jimmy) of Chilhowie, Va., Bonita McCarter of Whitetop, Va; sons, Kelly McCarter (Missy) of Blountville, Tn., Olden James “OJ” Atkins (Tonyna) of Fredericksburg, Va.; brother, MD Kennedy; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; her special friend, Eddie Alley; and her little cat, Tigger.

The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff from Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport for the amazing care they gave Betty.

Family will receive friends Wednesday, January 8, 2025 from 5 p.m. until the time of service at Fraziers’ Seaver-Brown Chapel, 237 East Main Street, Marion Va. A memorial service will begin at 6:30 p.m. with Pastor Daryl Harmon officiating. Burial will be held privately.
