MARION, VIRGINIA: BETTY RUTH UMBARGER, age 83, died Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at Smyth County Community Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ike and Mattie Brooks Pruitt; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Thelma Pruitt and brother-in-law, Buddy Teaster. Ruth is survived by her husband, Floyd "Buss" Umbarger of Marion, Virginia; three sons, Allen Umbarger and wife, Janie of Glade Spring, Virginia; David Umbarger and wife, Linda; Roger Umbarger and wife, Betty all of Marion, Virginia; two sisters, Violet Teaster and Emma Jean Wymer and husband, Curtis all of Marion, Virginia; one brother, Ralph Pruitt and wife, Wilma of Martinsville, Virginia; five grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; seven great-grandchildren and many special friends. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, February 10, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Reverend Herman Cress and Reverend R.C. Leonard officiating. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat, Virginia. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Russell's Chapel, C/O Bill Reynolds, 1265 Scratch Gravel Road, Marion, Virginia 24354 or to Jones Chapel Church of God, 5580 Highway 145, Meridian, Mississippi 39301.
