Bobby Wayne Blevins passed away on the morning of January 18, 2024 in Austin TX.
He was born on January 26, 1944 to Ed and Lavonia Blevins in Marion VA a minute before his twin brother Buddy. Throughout their lives, Bobby and Buddy shared a deep bond built on love, support, and friendship. Their unwavering bond is a testament to the enduring strength of family ties. Bobby grew up in Marion VA and was a graduate of Marion High School where he ran track and played football for the Marion Hurricanes. His college career included playing football for Lees-McRae in Banner Elk NC and Guilford College in Greensboro NC. He earned his Master’s Degree at East Tennessee State in Johnson City TN. After college, Bobby was an educator and HS football coach before entering the business world of sales. His career in Educational Publishing included National Sales Manager of Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, President of Coronado Publishers, President of Holt Rinehart Winston, CEO of Barrett Kendall Publishing, National Sales Manager for Voyager Learning, and President of iStation before retiring in January 2014. Bobby is remembered as an admired mentor, coach, devoted father, grandfather and husband. He was wise and strong with a gentle voice of reason. A memorable character that cannot be forgotten. Bob led a remarkable life filled with accomplishments and meaningful relationships. His life journeys from his home town in Marion VA to his lake house in Austin TX leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished by his family, his friends and neighbors, his colleagues and caregivers.
Preceding him in death are his father Charles Edward Blevins (1909-1944), his loving mother Lavonia Blevins (1910-2002), both of Marion, VA, and his older brother Charles Edward Blevins, Jr. (1936-2023) of Louisville, KY.
Bobby is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 33 years, Sandra Stucker Blevins; sons, Robert (Spike) Blevins (Karen) and Christopher Blevins (Jennifer); twin brother Buddy Bane Blevins who resides in Marion and Abingdon VA; grandchildren Barrett Blevins (Erica), Kendall Troncoso (Adam), Cailey Blevins, Lauren Blevins, and Britney Blevins; three great-grandchildren. Bob was an animal lover and owned many dogs throughout his life. He leaves behind his beloved German Shorthaired Pointer, Mona.
A Memorial will be held Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Fraziers’ Seaver-Brown Chapel, 237 East Main Street, Marion VA 24354. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 12 noon. Services will begin at noon with Pastor Tom Crise of First Christian Church (Abingdon VA) officiating. Following the service, we will proceed to Round Hill Cemetery for burial with graveside services.
