She was preceded in death by her father, Floyd Sidney Wymer and her mother, Lola Naomi Cole Wymer, both of Marion, VA.
Bobby was born on November 30, 1941 in Smyth County and graduated from Sugar Grove High School in 1959. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Radford College and also attended Indiana University. Bobby’s love of English and literature led her to a lifelong career in teaching where she taught at the high school level for three years and at the college level for 34 years – one year at Marion College and at Wytheville Community College (WCC) for 33 years. Bobby retired from WCC in 2002. While at WCC Bobby served on numerous college committees. She was the Professor Emeritus of WCC in 2003. She also served as faculty advisor for five years for the Alpha Delta Beta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa and earned the WCC Educational Foundation’s Distinguished Service Award. The nine-state 600 member two-year college English Association-Southeast in Charlotte, NC awarded Bobby their “Excellence in the Teaching of English” award in 1998. This prestigious award is given to one person each year whose pursuit of excellence in the teaching of English is most outstanding. Her many accomplishments were always dedicated to the students. Bobby fervently believed that a firm, but caring attitude would help make each student a better person.
To cherish her memory, Bobby leaves behind many students who will always have a fond classroom memory of her teachings as well as many friends whom she loved very much. She also leaves behind her two beloved feline companions – George and Hans.
