Buford Cregger

d. July 2, 2015

MARION, VIRGINIA: BUFORD C. CREGGER, SR. age 80, died Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion, Virginia. You weren't from around here if you hadn't met or heard of Buford Cregger. He loved his Lord, his family and his community very much. In the 60's and 70's he served as a volunteer on the Marion Fire Department, he also spent time helping the Marion Town Police Department for several years in the early 70's until his retirement in 1988. Mr. Cregger joined the Masonic Lodge when he was just twenty four years old, at the age of seventy four, he received his 50 year pin. He was committed. Committed to his church for forty-nine years and his wife Judy, for fifty-five years. Buford was a "go to guy". When Pat Helms was elected Marion's Mayor, he asked Buford to finish his term. Buford was elected to serve following that request and was later called upon to finish the term of Mark Warren after Mark's passing. A business man with Cregger and Taylor for over thirty two years and on any given Saturday you could find him at a Counts Auction anywhere in Southwest Virginia. A family man and community man, Buford Cregger will be missed by all who knew him.
