CHILHOWIE, VIRGINIA: BULAH BLANCHE STAMPER, age 93, passed away peacefully Friday, March 13, 2015 at her home in Chilhowie, Virginia.
She was born April 14, 1921 in Ashe County, North Carolina to the late Lem and Margaret Taylor. Blanche was a devout Christian of the Baptist faith. She was a humble spirit who found joy in the simple things. Blanche was a quilter, gardener and a seamstress. She put others first and everyone was welcome in her home. She was a hard worker with a strong work ethic, often working hard beside her husband of 53 years on their farm. You'd never hear her mutter a harsh word for or about anyone. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Stamper; father and mother-in-law, Hobert and Bertie Stamper; brothers, Wilda Taylor (Nora), James Taylor (Faye), Paul Taylor (Ruth); sisters, Hazel Powers (Vaughn), Eula Richardson (Stacy), Edna Taylor, Essie Taylor, Bess Combs (Glenn), Grace Martin (Bruce) and Leslie Pearl Taylor; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Gladys Duncan, Magdalene Cline, Louise Hawkins, Bobby Stamper, Ann Cullop, Clifford Stamper and Bethany Stamper.
Blanche is survived by her daughter, Judy Stamper of Chilhowie, Virginia; children of her heart, who Blanchie cared for, loved and helped raise, Wendy Gullion of Chilhowie, Virginia, Jason Gullion of Marion, Virginia, Shai Cullop of Durham, North Carolina, Judith Gullion of Roanoke, Virginia, Sierra Blevins and husband, Kodey of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Scott Gullion of Marion, Virginia, Alyssa Gullion of Bluefield, Virginia, Franklin Gullion of Marion, Virginia and Landon Blevins of Chattanooga, Tennessee; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Madelyn King of Marion, Illinois, William A. Stamper and wife, Barbara of Topsail Beach, North Carolina, Junior Stamper and wife, Judy of Lenoir, North Carolina, Mack Stamper of Chilhowie, Virginia, Delter Cullop of Marion, Virginia, Opal Stamper of Chilhowie, Virginia; sister-in-law and best friend, Thelma Stamper of Chilhowie, Virginia; special nieces, Sharon Armstrong of Marion, Virginia and Drema Griffin of Meadowview, Virginia; special neighbors, Bobby Joe and Jane Blevins of Chilhowie, Virginia; several nieces and nephews and friends in the community; and her loyal furry companion, Lucy.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Paul Brown and nurse Norma for their care; caregiver, Donna Stanberry; and Hospice of Southwest Virginia.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, March 15, 2015 at 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Reverend Joe Powers officiating. Graveside Services will be held Monday, March 16, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery, Chilhowie, Virginia, once again alongside her husband, Leonard. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
Pallbearers will be Delter Cullop, Jason Gullion, Scott Gullion, Bobby Joe Blevins, Michael Armstrong and Franklin Gullion.
