MARION, VIRGINIA: CARL E. PERKINS, age 90, died Wednesday, July 23, 2008 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mr. Perkins served in the United States Army during World War II, and was a life member of VFW Post # 4667. He was also an active member of the Marion Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel Sexton Perkins of Marion, Virginia; one daughter, Carla Porter of Mooresville, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Lindsay and Robb Porter both of Mooresville, North Carolina; three sisters, Ella Mae Slemp of Marion, Virginia, Annie Lee Cornett of Independence, Virginia, and Virginia Anderson of Rising Sun, Maryland; two brothers, John Perkins of Marion, Virginia and Ted Perkins of Stewartstown, Pennsylvania; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 25, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Dr. Mark Ross and Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Burial will follow in Wassum Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marion Baptist Church, 1258 North Main Street, Marion, VA 24354.
