NEODESHA, KANSAS: CARL P. SEXTON, age 71, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2009, at his home in Neodesha, Kansas. He was born October 23, 1937 in Atkins, Virginia to the late Roy T. and Hazel M. Sexton.
Carl was a 1957 graduate of Marion High School and a member of the football team. He served 20 years in military service, most of that time in the United States Air Force, where he served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He later worked for the United States Forest Service in Louisiana and Mississippi. He retired to Arizona and lived there until this past spring when they moved to Kansas with their daughter. He enjoyed hunting and
watching baseball, football, and NASCAR racing on TV.
Carl is survived by his wife of 44 years, Everdene F. Sexton; a daughter, Laura Brake, Neodesha, KS; a brother, Charles Lloyd Sexton and wife, Emma of Atkins, VA; a sister, Regina M. Price and husband, Robert of Sumter, SC; three grandchildren, Tosh Littau, Wyspher Wilkes, and Trayce Schmitt of Neodesha, KS; three great-grandchildren, Lane and Bronson Wilkes, and Taven Littau. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, including Paula Violet, Raleigh, NC; Robin Fletcher, Chilhowie, VA; Thomas Price of Seneca, SC and a host of cousins.
It was Carl's desire that his remains be brought back to his Virginia home. A local memorial will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 246, Abingdon, Virginia
