CAROL SUE HALL ATWELL, age 69, went to be with the Lord Sunday, March 14, 2010 in Smyth County Community Hospital. She was a devoted Christian and member of Gethsemane Baptist Church for many years. She was a loving wife, mother of six and grandmother of twelve. Family and friends were the most important things in her life. Mrs. Atwell loved to just sit and talk with the grandchildren for hours. She was loved by all. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Lee Hall; her parents, Edward and Esther Thompson; one brother, Kenneth Peake; and a grandson, Eric Hall. She is survived by her husband, Carl Atwell, Jr. of Marion, Virginia; two daughters and one son-in-law, Donna Gail Hall and Susan and Ramon Abad all of Marion, Virginia; four sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Roberta Hall of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, Timothy Hall, Daniel and Michelle Hall and Jason Hall all of Marion, Virginia; two sisters, Rebecca Mercer of Abingdon, Virginia and Edna Eller of Mount Airy, North Carolina; one brother, Charles Peake of Hampstead, Maryland; eleven grandchildren, Michael Hall, Jared Abad, Ashley Hall, Josh Sexton, Olivia Hall, Tori Hall, Max Abad, Nathaniel Abad, Kolleen Hall, Cameron Hall and Brett Hall; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Gethsemane Baptist Church, Marion, Virginia with Pastor Ryan Cox and Reverend Pat Gilbert officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Marion, Virginia. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
