Charles Richard Rush, Sr.

 Charles Richard Rush, Sr. (1931 – 2024), known as Richard, passed away on Monday, June 3, 2024, in Abingdon Virginia.

He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Elizabeth Justine Burchett Rush. 

Richard lived in Washington Country Virginia as a boy, and for the last many years, before moving to a nursing facility in Abingdon, Richard lived in Marion, Virginia. Richard worked for Brunswick Corporation as an engineer for most of his career, starting in Marion and later in DeLand, Florida. He later worked for Litton Corporation. Richard served in the US Army from 1953 – 1955, and guarded the tomb of the unknown soldier in Washington DC. Prior to his miliary service, Richard attended Emory & Henry College in Emory, Virginia. 

Richard is survived by his son and daughter, Charles Richard “Rick” Rush, Jr.  of Port Orange, Florida and Leah Rush Cann of Newport, Rhode Island; grandsons, Ethan Rush and Garrett Rush; daughter-in-law, Lisa Rush, and son-in-law Ross Cann; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

The family will receive friends Saturday, July 6, 2024 from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. at the Royal Oak Presbyterian Church, 139 West Main Street, Marion, Va. in which he was a member. Memorial services will begin at 10 a.m. with Reverend Alan Gray officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Richard’s name to Emory & Henry College, P.O. Box 947, Emory, VA 24327.
