Coy Denver Carpenter

d. January 22, 2016

MARION, VIRGINIA: COY DENVER CARPENTER, age 87 went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 22, 2016. He was born on August 13, 1928 to the late Arley and Ada Campbell Carpenter. Daddy was a faithful member of Freedom Tabernacle Baptist Church and thoroughly enjoyed traveling with his friend and Pastor Mike to numerous revivals over the years. He was known to be a Jack of all trades, as his handyman skills came easy to him in many aspects around the house. He took pride in his yard as mowing was never a job, but came as an enjoyment to daddy. Above all, he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him! In addition to his parents, Coy was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Goldie Loraine Carpenter; and loving dog, Pepper. Family remaining to cherish his memory includes his daughter and son-in-law, Belinda and Charles Horne of Marion, Virginia; brother and sister-in-law, Delmer and Kate Carpenter of Lynchburg, Virginia; 3 sisters, Jo Hall and husband, David of Marion, Hazel Shelton of Fort Wayne, IN, and Wilma Hall of Quarryville, PA; 2 grandchildren, Chad Horne and Diane Paton of Christiansburg, Virginia, and Jason Horne and wife, Christy of Marion; 1 great-grandson, Riley Horne of Marion; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Allene and Howard Roop of Bristol; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Pastor Mike Sage officiating. Interment will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at 11 a.m. in Resurrection Gardens in Atkins, where Military Rites will be conducted by VFW Post 4667. The family will receive friends from 6 until time of service on Wednesday at Seaver-Brown Chapel. The family wishes to offer a special Thank You to Mike Sage, for your friendship and care given to dad over the years; to the staff of Smyth County Community Hospital, as well as Donna and the staff of Hospice of Southwest Virginia, for the love and care given during our time of need!
