Dana Sharn Rowland

Abingdon, Va. 

Dana Sharn Rowland age 61, passed away unexpectedly, Thursday, March 30, 2023 surrounded by her family.

Dana was a special loving wife, mom, and grandma from the mountains who loved her family unconditionally. Raised as an “Air Force brat,” she moved all over the U.S. providing opportunities and personal experiences that she was proud of; giving her many special memories. She was a member of Marion Senior High’s marching band playing the flute, and graduated in 1979. Dana and Keith started their journey together in 1981 in Marion. From there they moved to Hampton and raised their girls, later moving in 2011 to Chilhowie, finally, moving to Abingdon in 2013. She worked in IT at Northrop Grumman for 10+ years. Dana was always the smartest person in the room so much so if she was on Jeopardy, she would win. She was amazing in so many ways and had endless hobbies such as cooking, technologist, stain glass, and a gamer who loved wordle and nerdle. Leaving behind a big hole in her family’s heart, she was loved and will be missed dearly until they meet again.  

She was preceded in death by her father, William T. Vernon Jr.  

Dana is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Keith E. Rowland of Abingdon, Va.; two daughters, Simone Hower (Rob) of Yorktown, Va. and Megan Moulton (Timothy) of Chesapeake, Va.; mother, Margaret Vernon of Hampton, Va.; sisters, Terry French of Hampton, Va. and Tina Aiello (John) of Moncks Corner, SC.; brother, Chase Vernon (Erin) of Daleville, Va.; six grandchildren, Reese, RJ, Ryland, Carter, Jack and James; one great-grandchild, Christian “CJ” Jr.; several nieces and nephews; lifelong friend, Mischell; and many other special friends. 

The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 4, 2023 from 5 until 7 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. A Celebration of Life will begin at 7 p.m. with Pastor Mike Sage officiating. Burial will be private.
