CHILHOWIE, Va.
David Michael Bates, age 48, passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at his home, after a long and courageous battle with his health.
He is now at peace with his Lord Jesus with no more worries or pain. David loved the Lord and his family and friends. He was always there for someone in need and could always be counted on for a kind word or support during troubling times. He also was hilarious, and never at a loss for a witty joke or remark. David loved music, and was an accomplished singer-songwriter, who had the privilege to record in Nashville several years ago, with a song that went to 25 on the Power Source Christian Country chart. He played in several bands in the area for many years. David was a 1991 graduate of Patrick Henry High School, and a 1995 graduate of Emory and Henry College, where he played football and earned his bachelor’s degree in education. He taught Alternative Education and Social Studies in Grayson County schools for several years, where he loved his students and always worked hard to help them achieve their goals.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Bates.
David is survived by his wife, Brooke Bates; daughter, Sage both of the home; son, Druid Caudill and partner, Brittney Cunningham; granddaughter, Addy; mother, Bonnie Orr Bates; brother, Butch Bates and wife, Ginny; niece, Katy Davis; many loving cousins, aunts and uncles.
A private memorial will be held at a later date
