MARION, VIRGINIA: DENNIE LAKE STEVENSON, age 83, passed away January 6, 2013 at Grayson Nursing Home in Independence, Virginia. He was born June 28, 1929 in New Hall, West Virginia to the late Bessie Myers and Beverly Stevenson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ward Stevenson and Kelly Stevenson; six sisters, Rose Serris, Della Roberts, Eva Roberts, Nila Lewis, Gertrude Hall and May Powell. Dennie was raised in Troutdale, Virginia and enjoyed spending his summers there after retirement and hunting in the mountains where he grew up. He served in the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. He retired as superintendent of the Burlington City Light Department and Brown & Root Electrical. He is a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and he belongs to Masonic Lodge # 31 and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Dennie is survived by his wife, Janet Atkins Stevenson of Marion, Virginia; one brother, Alva Marvin Stevenson of Marion, Virginia; one sister, Dallas Glasgow of Alamance, North Carolina; one step-daughter, Pamela Atkins Davis and husband, Ralph; one step-son, Reber Joseph Atkins III and wife, Sherry of Atkins; grandchildren, Brandy Davis Nichols and husband, Mike, Candace Atkins Seymour and husband Michael, and Elena Atkins; three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, and all the nurses at Grayson Nursing Home who gave him such good care for 29 months. A celebration of his life will be held at Seaver-Brown Home with Reverend Mike Teague and Reverend Emmitt Wilson officiating, Tuesday, January 8, 2013, 2:00 p.m. Masonic Rites conducted by Masonic Lodge #31 A.F. & A.M. There will be visitation at the funeral home 2 hours prior the service. He will be laid to rest at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Marion with Military Rites conducted by Marion VFW Post #4667. Flowers will be appreciated or donations may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 710 Grace Street, Marion, Virginia 24354 Expressions of sympathy may be made to the family at www.seaverbrown.com. Seaver-Brown Funeral Service and Crematory is serving the Stevenson Family.
