Marion, Virginia
Dixie Olinger Sheets age 71, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion, Va.
Dixie was a graduate of Marion Senior High School and served as Marion’s Town Clerk for over 30 years. You would also find her working at Hungry Mother State Park – a job and work family she enjoyed and dearly loved. Dixie was a huge University of Virginia fan; win or lose she was 100% behind her “Hoos” and a truly loyal fan. She was a master gardener, loved quilting and sewing and crafts in general. She had a love for her “furbabies” that carried over to Saddlebred horses – and going to horse shows was always a good time. Dixie loved to travel – the Caribbean with clear blue water and warm sand was her favorite destination. More than anything, Dixie’s family brought her the most joy. Holidays with her family or a casual day together were her most favorite things. She was a wonderful mother, sister and friend who is missed, but always in her family’s hearts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Warren V. and Mildred L. Olinger; father of her children, Steven R. Sheets; and brother, Mike Olinger.
Dixie is survived by her daughter, Amanda Sheets Alsbrook (Rick) of Pounding Mill, Va.; son, Marcus Sheets of Marion, Va.; brother, David Olinger (Lesa) of North Myrtle Beach, SC; sister-in-law, Sue Olinger of Georgetown, Tenn.; many nieces and nephews and their families; special friends, Anita Catron, Ann Shelton, and Linda Rector; special companions, dog- Belle and cat- Miss Kitty.
The family will receive friends Saturday, July 27, 2024 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Fraziers’ Seaver-Brown Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. with Pastor John Graham officiating. Burial will follow at Ridgedale Cemetery, 1112 Ridgedale Road (Rt.624), Saltville/Rich Valley, VA 24370.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mountain View United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1722, Chilhowie, VA 24319.
