MARION VIRGINIA: DONALD D. JONES, age 83, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at his home in Marion, Virginia.
He was born September 18, 1929 to the late Robert and Laura Hutton Jones. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge from the Army in 1953, he worked with Cities Service Oil Distributing Company, which was sold in 1965. He then founded Empire Manufacturing Company, a wood molding company which he sold in 1973. Following the sale of this company, he then founded Appalachian Realty Company which he owned until the time in which it was sold in 2003. Mr. Jones always felt fortunate to be involved in many varied and different ventures and he enjoyed each new challenge immensely. He took much pleasure in living in the Marion area and gained great satisfaction in being an active part of the community. Mr. Jones was thankful to have found an amazing wife who diligently stood by his side for 61 years and very proud to be blessed with two wonderful children.
Don is survived by his wife, Carolyn Calhoun Jones of Marion, Virginia; one daughter, Kathleen Jones Cook and husband, Brent D. of Denton, North Carolina; one son, Quincy C. Jones and wife, Julie J. of Phoenix, Arizona; three sisters, JoAnne Tallent and husband, Warren of Marion, Virginia, Charlene Burnop and husband, Ronald of Marion, Virginia, and Linda Lox and husband, John of Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia; one sister-in-law, Patricia Fry Jones of Marion, Virginia; one grandson, Parker Calhoun Jones; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, with the Reverend Jonathan Jonas & Dr. Mark Ross officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Marion, Virginia with Military Rites conducted by Marion VFW Post #4667. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel, Marion, Virginia.
