Bristol, Virginia
Doris Margaret Ward age 95 passed away peacefully in her sleep Tuesday, March 25, 2025, under the care of her loving daughter.
Doris was born in New Jersey November 8, 1929 to Howard Burr Borel and Bessie Brown Borel. In 1947 she married the love of her life and father to their 5 children, Robert George Ward, Sr. Doris received Christ at the age of 8, but a desire in her heart began years later as a wife and mother when she asked The Lord for salvation for all of her family. Upon Sister Margaret ministering to her from the Pentecostal church in town, she claimed Acts 16:31 “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” With a step of faith, Doris acted on a dream in her heart from The Lord and along with her husband, opened Ward’s Christian Bookstore in the rural Rancocas area of Burlington Township, NJ. Her ministry there continued for 30 years until retirement to Bristol, VA where she enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren for many years. Her ministry did not end in NJ. She served and cared for her family in her new home in Bristol, ministering to them through holiday meals, prayers, and words of wisdom throughout the years. She was a loyal and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Many who had the privilege of loving her have gone before her, and there she is now reunited with them in Heaven. Her spiritual legacy will remain forever strong for generations to come! Her favorite song was “There’s Something About That Name” and she made sure everyone she knew heard about her Jesus! Now she is in His presence, worshipping Him in her heavenly home. As the old hymn says, “When we all get to Heaven what a glorious day that will be!”
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert George Ward; son, Raymond H. Ward; daughter, Cynthia M. Harris; siblings, Howard Burr Borel Jr., Raymond Hyde Borel and Elizabeth Carolyn Borel.
Doris is survived by her children, Robert G. Ward Jr., Susan D. Ward, and Darcee Ward Luchini; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
No plans have been made at this time for services.
