MARION, Va.
Dorthea Phillippi Hall, age 94 passed away Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Francis Marion Manor, Marion, VA.
She was born in Bristol, Va. on April 28, 1922 to Edward Franklin Phillippi and Lula Jane Pickle Phillippi.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Maurice, and three brothers - Edward Jr, Richard and Charles.
She is survived by her children, Patrick Hall and wife, Diane of Fairfax Station, Va., Marcella Sayers and husband, Larry of Marion, Va., and Ellen Thompson and husband, Pete of Tyrone, Ga.; one brother, Elmer Phillippi of Rock Hill, SC; seven grandsons and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hall was a former employee of Southwestern State Hospital where she worked in occupational therapy. She was a member of Wharf Hill Methodist Church in Sugar Grove where she served as organist for over 50 years. She was also a member of the DAR and Smyth County Community Hospital Auxiliary serving as pianist for the Wednesday chapel services at Francis Marion Manor. She enjoyed volunteering at the Settler's Museum of Southwest Virginia which was established by her brother, Charles.
Services for Mrs. Hall will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at the Wharf Hill Methodist Church in Sugar Grove, Va. Visitation will be from 1 until 2 p.m. the day of the funeral and burial will follow in Ridgelawn Cemetery behind the church.
