Edna Alice Widener

Edna Alice Widener age 92, passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2024 at her home. 

Edna Widener left a legacy that her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will strive to continue. She was smart, giving and hard working. She was a cashier at Walmart for several years, teaching by example with her genuine personality and excellent work ethic. When she wasn’t busy at work, Edna enjoyed reading, cooking and needlework as well as antiquing, flower gardening and music. Most of all, Edna’s loves were her family – all of them meant the world to her, and her great-grandchildren hung the stars. Edna will be dearly missed.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, Barry & Laura Sexton; and father of her children, Edward Widener.

Edna is survived by her daughters, Cathy Cook and Sharon Peterson, both of Marion, Va.; son, Allen Widener (Barbara) of Zolfo Springs, Fla.; five grandchildren, Chris Cook (Julia) of Cary, NC, Cori Fullen (Josh) of Marion, Va., Breanna Smith (Ben) of Fort Meade, Fla., Jessica Endsley (Justin) of Lake City, Fla. and Trevor Peterson of Marion, Va.; fourteen great-grandchildren, Gage, Liam, Addi, Connor, Carlyn, Wesley, Amelia, Alicyn, Layne, Elizabeth, Jake, Greg, Caleb and Raegan; special friend, Josh Edwards; and her faithful feline friend, Prowler.  

In keeping with Edna’s wishes, she will be privately interred surrounded by her family at Wassum Cemetery, Atkins, Va. Friends and family are welcome to visit at the home of Cori and Josh Fullen, 1025 Middle Avenue, Marion, Va.  A Celebration of Life will be announced later to honor her memory, where family and friends will gather to cherish her amazing life.
