Marion Va: EDWIN DAYTON CORTNER, age, 90 died Friday, September 30, 2016 at his home in Marion, Va.
He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in WWII in Germany and later retired from Smyth County Community Hospital after 40 years of service. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed golfing, bowling, hunting, bird watching and traveling. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Roberta (Tee) Cortner; a son, Samuel (Moe) Cortner; his parents, James and Emma Cortner; two sisters and five brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Cortner of Marion, Virginia; two daughters and one son-in-law, Sue Ellen Blizzard of Marion, Va. and Stephanie and Kenny Pickle of Groseclose, Va.; one son and daughter-in-law, James and Frances Cortner of Seven-Mile Ford, Va.; one daughter-in-law, Sharon Cortner of Bristol, Va; two step-sons, Roger McNeil and wife, Amy and James McNeil and wife, Teresa all of Marion, Va.; nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 3, 2016 at Seaver-Brown Chapel at 8 p.m. with the Reverend Justin Hall officiating. Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, Ceres, Va with military rites conducted by Francis Marion VFW Post #4667. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 p.m. until time of the service at Seaver Brown Chapel.
