MARION, Va.

Elizabeth Ann Cooper Gillespie, born October 8, 1948 in Marion Va., went home to be with the Lord, peacefully after a short illness Thursday, August 12, 2021 at home surrounded by her loved ones.

Annie retired from teaching after 37 years. She taught 3rd grade for 36 years at Marion Elementary and last year working with the gifted in different schools. The testimony of so many that she was a wonderful teacher. She was a faithful member of Chilhowie Baptist Church.

She was proceeded in death by her loving husband Donald Gillespie; parents, Stover and Juanita Cooper; brother, William Franklin Cooper; nephew, Bradley Barr; grandparents Bill and Dora Queen, and Franklin and Lura Cooper.

Ann is survived by her brothers Jack Cooper (Judy) of Callahan Fla.; Richard Cooper (Sandra) of Newport News, Va.; sister, Brenda Brooks (Daren) of Chilhowie, Va.; brother-in-law, Harold Gillespie (Nellie) of Seven Mile Ford Va.; sister-in-law, Sandra Cooper of Glade Spring, Va.; her namesakes, niece, Tarina Ann Delano (Scott); great-niece, Talli Lee Ann Hygema (Ethan); great-great-niece, Lily Ann all of Callahan, Fla.; nieces and nephews, Jason Cooper (Kristen), Christopher Cooper, all of Newport News, Va., Zoe and Amber Cooper of Dunoon, Scotland, Justin Brooks of Chilhowie, Va., Bruce Barr of Fayetteville, N.C. and Justin Barr (Brandi) of Fort Pierce, Fl; great-nieces and nephews, Dalton, Emily, Garett, Iona, Nathaniel, Kendra, Will, Gavin, Triniti, Landin, Dominic, Montana, Braydon, Ryleigh, Taelyn, and Parker; great-great-nieces and nephews, Lucas Clay, Isabella Grace and Ryder Layne; brothers and sisters of love, Jimmy and Debbie Schwartz, Ricky and Donna Sue Schwartz, all of Marion, Va., Glenn and Shelia Craig of Jacksonville, Fla., and Linda Horne of Seven Mile Ford, Va.; many cousins, neighbors and friends in Marion and Seven Mile Ford;, including special friend, Tammy Debord and special cousin, Lisa Mullinax who helped with Ann’s care.

Thank you to Dr. Jennifer Jonkers and MSA Hospice of Abingdon, Va., especially Laken, Tiffany and Angela for their special care during her illness.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 16, 2021 at 1 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Pastor Cody Sturgill officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow in Ridgedale Cemetery, 1112 Ridgedale Road, Rich Valley, Va.
