MARION, Va: ELIZABETH PEARL BARTON COFFEY, age 94, died Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, Va.
Mrs. Coffey was born January 1, 1922 in Cherokee County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Wilbur W. and Maude Taylor Barton. She was a member of the Royal Oak Presbyterian Church and was a retired employee of Southwestern State Hospital. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Orville Calloway Coffey.
Mrs. Coffey is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Emma Jeanne “Amy” Coffey Mendez and Daniel L. Mendez of Marion, Va.; three grandsons, Michael A. Mendez of Sugar Grove, Va., David E. Mendez of Washington, D.C. and Jason P. Mendez of Richmond, Va.; special nieces, Mary Lou Coffey McKelvey & husband, James of Homosassa, Fl., and Earlene Coffey Wheeler & husband, Richard of Bristol, Tn.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray W. and Virginia Barton of Athens, Tn., Mark E. & Patsy Barton of Harriman, Tn. and Frank Barton of Athens, Tn.; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 14, 2016 at 12 noon at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Reverend Alan Gray officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery in Bristol, Tn. The family will receive friends Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of service at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
