SUGAR GROVE, VIRGINIA: ELIZABETH "BETHEL" PHIPPS CURRIN, age 89 of Sugar Grove passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2011 with her daughters by her side at Springtree Health and Rehab Center in Roanoke, VA.
She was born in Grayson County, VA, on December 30, 1921 to Zeb and Minnie Phipps. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Currin; two brothers, ZA and Clake Phipps; and two sisters, Ona Slemp and Lorene Wilson.
Bethel was a member of Wharf Hill United Methodist Church in Sugar Grove, She enjoyed traveling, basket weaving, crocheting, and spending time with family and friends. She was a retiree of Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute in Marion.
Those left to cherish her memory are two daughters and sons-in-law, Deanna and Jim Bowman of Blue Ridge, VA, and Erma and Harry Anderson of Sugar Grove, VA. Also surviving are four grandsons and wives, Jimmy and Teresa Bowman; Michael (Peanut) and Tamara Bowman of Blue Ridge, VA; Travis Anderson of Arlington, VA; and Eric and Meredith Anderson of Midlothian, VA; five great grandchildren, Kristi, Conner, Makena, and Logan Bowman and Peyton Anderson. She is also survived by a special sister-in-law, Sue Skinner of Lynn, MA and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Seaver- Brown Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Donald Medley officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Sugar Grove at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2011.
