MARION, VIRGINIA: ELMER LEE PEAKE, age 90, died peacefully Tuesday, August 30, 2011 in the presence of his family at Smyth County Community Hospital.
Elmer was a World War II Veteran having served in the U.S. Army as a medic and receiving a Purple Heart for his service. He was an employee of Brunswick for 45 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Ray Peake and Martha Jane "Maddie" Hall-Peake; brothers, Paul Peake, Jim Peake, Mack Peake and Earl Peake; sisters, Irene Peake and Hazel Peake Lyles.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Evelyn "Granny" Shupe Peake of Marion, Virginia; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Debbie Peake of Marion, Virginia and Emmett and Shirley Whisman Peake of Radford, Virginia; one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and David Haga, Springfield, Tennessee; step-mother, Edna Anders Peake of Sparta, North Carolina; brother, John Peake; sisters, Gladys Peake Hanks, Ruth Peake Dean and Diane Peake Hagee; five grandchildren, Jodi, Chris, Angela, Laura and David II; five great-grandchildren, P.J., Sydney, Jacob, Katilyn, and Hailey; special friend Toni Katz; his four legged buddy, Barney; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, September 1, 2011 at 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Reverend Neville Mozingo and Reverend Bill McCollian officiating. Graveside Services will be held Friday, September 2, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Rose Lawn Mausoleum with Military Rites conducted by Francis Marion VFW Post #4667. The family will receive friends Thursday, from 6:00 p.m. until the time of service.
