MARION, Va.: ENID Z. ROLAND, age 83, died Friday, February 5, 2016 at Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion Va.
Enid for many years was the first person someone moving to Marion would meet. She was the official Welcome Wagon Ambassador. If you were looking for a bank, church or business, Mrs. Roland knew how to take care of folks. She was wonderful wife, mother and grandma. As a matter of fact, she loved being a grandma and cherished her family. Never to let her husband, Don, “get one up on her”, she took up fishing to spend more time with him and eventually ended catching bigger fish than he did. She had the mounted fish to prove it! Enid was a giver and always a positive force. She was so active with her church, helping with finances, traveling with the Joy Group and growing closer in her walk with her Sunday School Class. Mrs. Roland never stopped learning. Don had half of a plane, she learned how to fly. She loved playing the piano and reading. It’s been said, Enid Roland could open a library out of her home. The Virginia Cavaliers and the Atlanta Braves lost a huge fan, but if there’s a cheering section, a creek bank or an official Welcome Wagon in Heaven, you can bet Enid’s found her place, her Don and her Lord. She will be missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Nelson “Don” Roland, Sr.; and her parents, Charle and Winifred Angel Ziemann.
Enid is survived by her daughters, Patti McCambridge and husband, Jack of Chesapeake, Va., Angela Roland of Marion, Va.; sons, David Roland of Suwanee, Ga., and Donald Roland, Jr. of Triangle, Va.; grandchildren, Keirstin McCambridge of Chicago, Il., and Andrew Roland of Atlanta, Ga.; special cousins, Bill and Ida Pugh of Marion, Va.
