Ethel Copenhaver

MARION, VIRGINIA: ETHEL COULTHARD COPENHAVER, age 93, died Tuesday, July 10, 2007 in Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home. Ethel was a very active member of Ebenezer Lutheran church where she served in a number of positions such as Chairperson of her WELCA circle, recorder of business meetings of WELCA for many years, elected by church member to Church Council, and a very active member of the Adult Sunday School Class and the daytime Bible Study Group. She often assisted members by offering them rides to church activities and she actively supported expansion campaigns of the church such as additional Sunday School rooms, building the Day Care Center and playground construction. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Edward; one sister, Della Coulthard Box; two brothers, Clarence and Marvin Coulthard; and her son-in-law, John Freed. She was a beloved wife, Mom, Nannaw, and Great-Grandma. She is survived by one sister, Irene Coulthard Wheeler of Marion, Virginia; Three sisters-in-law, Mary Pennington of Marion, Virginia, Carley Greer of Melbourne, Florida, and Rosemond Coulthard of Pearisburg, Virginia; Two Sons, Donald E. "Don" and his wife, Mary Lou of Pulaski, Virginia, and Reverend W. Eugene and his wife, Marty of Marion, Virginia; One Daughter, Della Joyce Freed of Roanoke, Virginia; Five Grandchildren, Mark Copenhaver of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, Rebecca Copenhaver DeLegge of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, Dr. Michael McDonald Copenhaver of North Haven, Connecticut, Michele Copenhaver Yarhouse of Mosley, Virginia, and Ashley Freed Clements of Roanoke, Virginia. Ten Great-Granchildren. A Service of Celebation will be held Thursday, July 12, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at Ebenezer Lutheran Church with Rev. James H. Bangle officiating. A private committal service will be held later at Rose Lawn Cemetery, Marion, Virginia. The Family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the church.
