Evelyn Barker

MARION, VIRGINIA: EVELYN BARKER, age 90, died Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at Francis Marion Manor, Marion, Virginia. Evelyn was a true mother. Her children were the light of her life. She was a hostess and homemaker who always had her home open. A friend to anybody who needed one, Evelyn was always smiling. Many will remember her from her 18 years at Marion Plaza as the owner and operator of Bark-Wood Shoes. She was a member of the Falling Water Baptist Church and a devoted Sunday school teacher. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Arnie Barker; sons, Fred Barker and Larry Barker; parents, Walter and Ruby Spencer Wood; six siblings and her great-granddaughter, Marissa Shuler. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Thweatt and husband, Melvin; son, Royce Barker; daughter-in-law, Betty Barker, all of Marion, Virginia; sisters, Sandra Bowers and husband, Wayne of Grassy Creek, Virginia and Norma Blevins of Greenville, South Carolina; six grandchildren, Brandon Barker of Slidell, Louisiana, Matthew Barker of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Jenny Pruett and husband, Paul of Houston, Texas, Shellie Kell and husband, Ralph, Beth Spence and husband, Dean and Jared Shuler and wife, Brittany all of Marion, Virginia; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 30, 2015 at 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Reverend Mark Totten officiating. Graveside Services will be held Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Liberty Hill Cemetery, Grayson County, Virginia. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the family at www.seaverbrown.com.
