MARION, VIRGINIA: EVELYN BROOKS SHUMATE, age 92, widow of Dixie Lee Shumate, died Thursday, March 31, 2005 in Smyth County Community Hospital. She was a member of Falling Water Baptist Church, the Garden Club, and Order of the Eastern Star Marion Chapter #72, where she was a past Matron. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by two sons, Dixie L. Shumate, Jr. and Eddie Shumate. Mrs. Shumate is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Jerry Baker of Marion, Virginia. One sister, Juanita Anderson of Sugar Grove, Virginia. Four grandchildren, Karen Braddock and husband, Jim, Heather Cooke, Tim Boyd, and Chris Boyd. Two great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Ruth Poore of Bristol, Tennessee also survive. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 2, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Fall Water Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Lewis and Dr. Mark Ross officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Marion, Virginia. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
