Florence Neel

MARION, VIRGINIA: FLORENCE ELIZABETH BURNOP NEEL, age 90, widow of Vernon Neel died Sunday, December 10, 2006 in Smyth County Community Hospital. She was born on January 22, 1916 to the late George and Mae Campbell Burnop. Mae Campbell Burnop later was married to John Burnop. Mrs. Neel secured her Bachlor's Degree at Radford College and her Masters at the University of Virginia. She began her teaching career in a one room school house at the Old Quarry, Saltville, Virginia. She taught 6th grade at Rich Valley School and continued teaching until the age of 62. After retirement, she taught at the Blue Ridge Job Corp and also privately tutored several students. She loved her family, church, friends, bridge, committees, being a Pink Lady and any Republican function. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, George Campbell Burnop. Mrs. Neel is survived by one daughter, Gail N. Vernon and husband, Dr. Sam Vernon; One son, William Campbell Neel and wife Casey Neel; Grandchildren, John Campbell Neel and wife, Catherine Neel, Chad Eric Hubble and wife, Jennifer Jones Hubble; Step-grandchildren, Anna Bowman and husband Dustin Bowman, David Vernon and wife, Jennifer Vernon and Neal J. Vernon and Nancye Herell; Great-grandchildren, Grace Neel, Lily Bowman, Lucas Vernon, Samuel Bowman and Alana Vernon; Special friends, Norma Simms and Betty Kirk. The Family would like to express a special thank you to Francis Marion Manor for all their loving care. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Chatham Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
