LEBANON, VIRGINIA: FRANK R. FINNEY, age 86, died Saturday, August 23, 2008 in Russell County Medical Center, Lebanon, Virginia. He was the son of the late Guy S. Finney and Bertha Garber Finney, also preceding him in death was a daughter, Beverly Finney Garland. He was a veteran of World War II, he then obtained his Embalmer and Funeral Director's License in 1948, and joined his father at the Lebanon Funeral Home, retiring after 37 years of service. Before retirement he was active in community projects and was a member of the first organized Lebanon Volunteer Fire Department and was instrumental in organizing and equipping the first Russell County Rescue Squad. He was a member of the Lebanon Lions Club for forty years. He was a faithful and lifetime member of the Lebanon Memorial United Methodist Church. At retirement, he became an ardent fisherman and lover of the great outdoors, where he had many happy hours with his friends and the good Lord. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Helen Howard Finney, also two sons, Gregory G. Finney of Abingdon, Virginia and Howard G. Finney and wife, Bonnie of Lebanon, Virginia; a son-in-law, David Garland of Denton, Virginia; a daughter-in-law, Julianne Finney of Abingdon, Virginia; four grandchildren, Kimberly DiBona and husband, Brendan of Fairfax, Virginia, Angela Finney and husband Barkley Hoffman of Chicago, Illinois, Thad Finney and wife, Camille of Abingdon, Virginia and Nathan Finney and wife, Melonie of Lebanon, Virginia; one step-granddaughter, Bridgett Shortridge and husband, James Stork of Lebanon, Virginia; also surviving are six great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. at the Lebanon Memorial United Methodist Church, Lebanon, Virginia with the Rev. Mike Carter and Rev. Don Nation officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the Lebanon Memorial United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, those who desire may make memorials to the Bus Fund, Lebanon Memorial United Methodist Church, 24 Tate Street, Lebanon, Virginia 24266.
