MARION, VIRGINIA: FREDA LEE WHISMAN DUNCAN, age 90, of Salem, departed this life on Saturday, June 14, 2014, and immediately entered into eternal life with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Freda was employed by General Electric in Salem, where she worked in the engineering department and served as a founding member of the credit union. Freda was an active member of Shenandoah Baptist Church until she returned to her hometown of Marion, Virginia in 1991. Freda is preceded in death by her husband, Lance Duncan; her father, Fred Whisman; mother, Ethel McKinnon Whisman; stepmother, Jessie Whisman; brothers, Guard Whisman, Olin Whisman, and Denver Whisman, and sister, Betty Wasmer.
She is survived by a son, L.B. Duncan and wife, Debbie, of Salem; grandson, Ian Duncan and wife, Allison, of Roanoke; brother, Jim Whisman and wife, Betty, of Florida; sister, Pat Smith, of Maryland; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at 11:00 AM Friday, June 20, at Marion Baptist Church, followed by the funeral service at 12:00 PM, officiated by Dr. Robert Alderman. Interment will follow at Wharf Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery (Ridgelawn Cemetery) in Sugar Grove.
