MARION, VIRGINIA: GARLAND GREEVER SCOTT, Jr. age 69, passed away comfortably in his sleep with his family at his side on May 7, 2012. Known as "Scotty" to all those who knew and loved him. Affectionately known as "Papa Scott" to his grandchildren. He was born in Smyth County to the late Garland and Helen Moore Scott. He was a lifetime member of the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church and was employed as business office manager for 42 years at Smyth County Community Hospital. Among his favorite pastimes were fishing, hunting and farming, which he loved. "Scotty" is survived by his wife of 49 years, Paddie Buchanan Scott of Marion, Virginia; one son Garland Scott III and wife, Chris of Greensboro, North Carolina; one daughter, Aimee Mayfield and husband, James of Johnson City, Tennessee; one brother, Kenny Scott and wife, Linda of Marion, Virginia; one brother-in-law, Mac Buchanan and wife, Pat of Saltville, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Hannah, Ashlyn, Mary and Josh Scott and Abigail, Rachel and Jimmy Mayfield; and two nieces, Robin Scott and Kimberly Holman. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church with Reverend William Schoeneman and Reverend Harry Howe officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, 4329 Lee Highway, Marion, VA 24354. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the family at www.seaverbrown.com. Seaver-Brown Funeral Service and Crematory is serving the Scott Family.
