Garry Thompson, age 69 - It is with a very heavy heart that we submit to the Sovereign Will of God in the transition from earth to glory of Elder Garry Thompson, affectionately known as “Bro. Garry" on April 4, 2022.
Bro. Garry was one of a kind. He had a heart of gold and never met a stranger. He loved people and loved to help people the best he could. But, most of all, Bro. Garry LOVED GOD. He was a praiser. At any moment in the service, he would say “Ah Glory!” Bro. Garry was always ready to give God an unrestricted, unrestrained, unashamed praise. His praise would set the service ablaze. He would take off running and shift the atmosphere. Bro. Garry LOVED GOD. He would tell of God’s goodness to all who would hear. From the pulpit to the hospital bed, no matter where he was, Bro. Garry was going talk about Jesus and witness about His power. Bro. Garry LOVED GOD. He loved to travel to services, conferences and preaching engagements. If there was a service, Bro. Garry was there. He was faithful. Bro. Garry was a firey preacher. From his own words, “He never drove a car but God allowed him to travel the east coast to preach the gospel.” He would say, “If God wanted him there, He would get him there.” Bro. Garry LOVED GOD. His love and passion for God was contagious. He won many people to Christ. Bro. Garry certainly let his light shine and never let it go out. Bro. Garry was staple in our congregation and will be missed greatly. Bro. Garry, you fought your fight. You finished your course. You kept the faith. You’ve gone from labor to reward. Certainly, there is a crown of righteousness for you. We love you Bro. Garry! Take your rest. We’ll see you in the morning!
He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Thompson; parents, Roy and Gladys Compton Thompson; sisters, Gail Luckadoo and Kay Jones; and brother-in-law, Rex.
Bro. Garry is survived by his brothers, Ron Thompson (Connie) of Snowville, Va. and Mike Thompson (Patricia) of Pulaski, Va.; many nephews and nieces; and special church family.
