MARION, VIRGINIA: GAY S. SPRINKLE, age 98, died Tuesday June 2, 2009 at Francis Marion Manor. She was born September 4, 1910 in Rural Retreat, Virginia to the late Adam A. and Ollie Harmon Slagle.
Mrs. Sprinkle proudly held the honor of being the oldest living member of the First United Methodist Church, Marion, Virginia. Through her life she was active in many community organizations, including Marion Rebecca Lodge, Marion Business and Professional Woman's Club, Smyth County Community Hospital Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by four great nieces, Sherry Mohr of San Antonio, Texas, Susan Lock, Heidelberg, Mississippi, Julie Garrett, Manassas, Virginia and Jane Wright of Centreville, Virginia; great -great nephews, Kyle and Evan Garrett, Ryan, Brant and Adam Lock and great-great nieces, Jennifer Covey and Megan Garrett; also surviving are great-great-great nieces, Cassey and Kirstyn Lock and Jordan Covey.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, June 4, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rev. Jonathan Jonas officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday, evening from 6:00 p.m. until the time of the service at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Burial will be held Friday at Fairview United Methodist Church Cemetery, Rural Retreat, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fairview United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 206 Briarwood Lane, Rural Retreat, Virginia 24368.
