MARION, VIRGINIA: GAYLE ARNN LEWIS, beloved wife of Bob Lewis, left her earthly life to be with her Savior on December 18, 2007 at Regional Medical Center, Bristol, Tennessee.
In addition to her husband, Gayle is survived by a son, Rex Linkous and wife, Tabatha of Henry, Virginia; her daughters, Victoria Linkous of Greenville, North Carolina, Tammy Tishler and husband, Jason of Ashville, North Carolina, and Lori Linkous of Seattle, Washington. Surviving step-daughters are Tonya Swope and husband, Kirby of Pequea, Pennsylvania and Angela Lewis of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Other survivors are grandchildren, Jessica, Samantha, and Zachary Linkous, Isaiah and Ezekiel Tishler, Tabitha, Brett, and Garrett Swope and great-granddaughter, Gabriel Alexis Linkous. Surviving sisters and brothers-in-law are Neva and Jack Kerns of Greensboro, North Carolina and Iris and Joe Meadors of Smith Mountain Lake. Gayle leaves her 'baby girl' Airedale, Shalimar, for comfort and to be a companion to her dear husband. Her parents, Paul J. and Ruth Arnn preceded her in death. Gayle and Bob enjoyed hiking with Shalimar, traveling, dancing and visiting with their many friends. She and Bob were avid readers and spent hours every day reading aloud to each other and listening to Fox News. Gayle earned her BA from Longwood College, MS from Radford University and PhD from Virginia Tech. She was a contributor to her church and community. Gayle's first priority was serving God through Ebenezer Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Congregational Council and the Lutheran Women's Study Group. She was on the Advisory Board for the Smyth Career and Technical Center, a former member of the Smyth County School Board for the Park District, and a member of the Friends of the Smyth-Bland Regional Library.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 21, 2007 at 12:00 p.m. at Ebenezer Lutheran Church with Pastor Robert Maier officiating. The family will receive friends Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the church columbarium. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Ebenezer Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 1799, Marion, Virginia 24354.
