MARION, VIRGINIA: GAYNELL DEATON, age 62, died Sunday, June 14, 2015 at her daughter's home in Marion, Virginia.
She was born May 15, 1953 in Norton, Virginia to the late Bruce and Susie Phillips. Gaynell was a wonderful friend who was always smiling, no matter how bad she felt. She was an influential and positive influence in the lives of many children during her career as a pre-school teacher. Gaynell loved her Lord and her family; but as she was nearing death, she mentioned how she could not wait to hug Allison's neck and to be reunited with her parents in heaven.
In addition to her parent's she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Allison Deaton; and her father and mother-in-law, Hobert and Maxie Deaton.
Gaynell is survived by her husband, George Deaton of Appalachia, Virginia; one daughter, Julie Jones and husband, Travis of Marion, Virginia; two sons, Larry Deaton and Michael Deaton, both of Appalachia, Virginia; and two grandchildren, Ryan Jones and Maisie Deaton.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Appalachia Pentecostal Church with Reverend Roy Smith and Reverend David Rose officiating. Burial will follow in American Legion Cemetery, Big Stone Gap, Virginia. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Appalachia Pentecostal Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Allison Deaton to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
