George J. Orr

LYNCHBURG, Va. Dr. George J. Orr, age 93 of Lynchburg, Va., passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Carrington Place, Wytheville, Va. Dr. Orr was born August 15, 1923 in Dryden, Va. to the late George W. and Lola Waive Herndon Orr. He was very proud to have received a Congressional Appointment to become a Cadet Midshipman during World War II; having served in the Merchant Marine for 2 years. Dr. Orr graduated from the MCV School of Dentistry in 1952 and continued his education at UNC receiving a M.Sc. in Orthodontics in 1956. He practiced Orthodontics in Lynchburg, Va. for 30 years, retiring due to a severe hand injury. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Orr. Dr. Orr is survived by one son, Douglas Orr and wife, Elda of Hood River, Ore.; two daughters, Jo Ann Orr of Boone, N.C. and Betsy Brown and husband, Paul of Marion, Va.; one brother, John P. Orr of Salem, Va.; four grandchildren, Lauren Orr, Carson Orr, Aaron Brown, and Preston Brown. Graveside services will be held Friday, September 30, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Spring Hill Cemetery, Lynchburg, Va. with the Reverend Nathan C. Brooks officiating.
