MARION, VIRGINIA: GREGORY BAUMGARNER, age 62, died Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion, Va.
Greg was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who was the happiest with a farm full of animals or working on a motorcycle, rebuilding a transmission or watching cartoons with his grandson. He spent a majority of his life serving the Supreme Court as Magistrate for the 28th District Court, retiring after 25 ½ years of service. Greg was very active in his community as a Boy Scout leader, a volunteer for the Adwolfe Fire Department and Treasurer for the Marion Gun Club. He never met a stranger and was a friend to all who knew him. Mr. Baumgarner touched many lives in his 62 years, and he will be missed.
He was preceded in death by his father, Johnny Baumgarner; brother, Michael Baumgarner; step-father, Harry Meek; and special cousin, Joy June Baumgarner.
Greg is survived by his wife Kathy S. Baumgarner; son, Alan Baumgarner; mother, Helen Baumgarner all of Marion, Va.; sister, Millie Blevins and husband, David of Chilhowie, Va.; grandson, Jonathan Baumgarner; sister-in-law, Lynn Chapman and husband, Howell of Gate City, Va.; uncle, Reverend David Neitch and wife, Barbara of Marion, Va.; niece, Amanda Chapman; nephew, Brandon Chapman; and special companion, his dog Kasey.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Reverend John Graham officiating. Burial will be held Sunday, November 29, 2015 at 2 p.m. at South Fork Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
