Harold D. Johnson

Harold D. Johnson, age 91, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2022 at Rural Retreat Care Center.

Harold was a loving father and husband. He proudly served his country for almost 30 years, first joining the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed in France at the end of WWII, continuing his service during the Algerian Conflict. When he returned stateside he was assigned to the Agenate General’s Office in Beckley, WV, where he served as a nuclear biological chemical warfare specialist for the state of WV and retired as an Army National Guard recruiter. Harold will be remembered for his sharp wit and caring personality.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Callie Mae Steele Johnson.

Harold is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Mary Alice Johnson of Marion, Va.; daughter, Michelle Johnson of Florence, Italy; son, Michael D. Johnson of Marion, Va.; sister, Patsy J. Henegar of Abingdon, Va.; brother, Newell L. Johnson of Adwolfe, Va.; brother-in-law, Wayne E. Rector of Meadowview, Va.; grandchildren, Hannah Nicole Johnson of Greensboro, N.C. and Samuel David Johnson of Eden, N.C.; and several nephews.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, May 5, 2022 at 3 p.m. at the Holston Conference Emory & Henry Cemetery, 30461 Garnand Drive, Emory, VA 24327 with Military Rites conducted by the U.S. Army Funeral Honors Guard & Francis Marion VFW Post #4667. Family and friends are asked to meet at Seaver-Brown Funeral Service at 2 p.m. to follow in procession to the cemetery.
